# Venues

A **Venue** is a reusable location you can attach to your events - its name, logo, description, address and links. Once a venue is saved you can pick it from a list when creating an event instead of typing the location out again each time.

To manage them click **Venues** in the [Dashboard](/event-dashboard/) sidebar.

#### The Venues List

The page lists all your venues:

- **Venue name** - the logo and name; click the name to see the public venue page
- **Details** - links to the venue's Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube, if set
- **Events** - how many events use this venue; hover the number to see which ones
- **Action** - Edit, Duplicate and Delete

#### Adding a Venue

Click the **+** button at the top right of the list to create a new venue. You can also add one while editing an event - in the event editor the Venue field has an *"add it here"* link that opens a popup so you don't have to leave the page.

#### Editing a Venue

Click **Edit** in the Action column to open the venue form. The fields are:

- **Venue Name** - shown on your events (required)
- **Venue Description** - a rich-text description shown on the event page and the venue's own page (required)
- **Logo** - an image shown with the venue (jpg, gif or png)
- **Map Co-ordinates** - an optional override for the map position (see below)
- **Website, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter** - optional links shown as icons on the event page

Save your changes and they apply everywhere the venue is used straight away.

#### The Venue Address

Venues also remember their **address, postcode and country** - and this works in both directions:

- When you pick a venue in the event editor, the event's **Location** and **Postcode** fields are filled in automatically from the venue.
- When you save an event, the event's location and postcode are saved back to the venue - so once you've used a venue once, its address is stored for next time.

The address is shown on the venue card on your event page and on the venue's public page, so it's worth keeping it up to date.

#### Map Co-ordinates

Events show a Google Map of their location, and Google usually finds the right spot from the venue address alone. Occasionally it doesn't - rural venues, new developments or addresses Google doesn't recognise can end up with the pin in the wrong place. For those cases you can give the venue exact **Map Co-ordinates** which are used for the map instead of the address.

To get co-ordinates from Google Maps:

1. Open [Google Maps](https://maps.google.com) and find the venue.
2. Right-click the exact spot on the map - a menu appears with the co-ordinates at the top (eg *51.5074, -0.1278*).
3. Click the co-ordinates to copy them, then paste them into the **Map Co-ordinates** field.

Like the address, co-ordinates carry over to the event when you pick the venue in the event editor, so you only need to set them once.

#### Duplicating and Deleting

**Duplicate** makes a copy of the venue and opens it for editing - useful for a similar location. **Delete** removes the venue; events that were using it keep working but lose the venue link.
