DESCRIPTION:Martha Woods is a performer, composer and recording artist. Whilst her music reaches out to a wide range of genres, often using contemporary sounds, folk tradition is at the heart of what she creates. Martha is often inspired by the folklore, culture and landscape of her homeland of Cornwall, and she plays a mixture of self-penned material and reimaginings of traditional songs and tunes.Martha studied on Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music Degree (including a year at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick), in which she majored in composition and performance (fiddle), graduating with first class honours. She plays a range of instruments, including fiddle, guitar, piano and five-string banjo, as well as singing and step dancing.Having grown up dancing and playing with Cornish dance youth display team, Tan Ha Dowr, and leading folk-rock band, The Woodcarts, she has always been, and continues to be, heavily involved with the Cornish folk scene.Martha has released four EPs consisting of a mixture of original and traditional material, and has been involved in various composition projects. She performs regularly at a range of venues, festivals and events in Cornwall and further afield.
