SUMMARY:Wintersong 2026
DESCRIPTION:Wintersong is a concert of seasonal song and poetry to mark the dark turn of the year. Inspired by and drawing on the work of Ali Burns’ ‘Forgotten Carols’, along with many other songs of the season, both sacred and secular, we will together learn songs in harmony to bring a soulful contemplation of the season, interlaced with poetry and readings. Participants will learn the songs at a series of workshops, and then perform to a paying audience. The concert will raise funds for marginalised people, both locally and internationally.By signing up to become part of the Wintersong choir, you are committing to learning your parts to the best of your ability, and if at all possible to attending all of the rehearsals because of the limited time available to get a performance together. But all are welcome, and it is not necessary to read music as everything will be taught by ear. All words, some music, and sound files to aid learning will be provided, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits at the rehearsals. On the full day rehearsals please bring your own lunch, or purchase locally. Please note the rehearsals are at one of two venues, listed below. Make sure you come to the right one!The rehearsals will take place at the following times, although exact timings might vary as the project proceeds!Saturday 28th November from 2 to 5.30 South Belfast Quaker Meeting House, Marborough Park North.Saturday 5th December from 10 to 5.30 Frederick Street Quaker Meeting House 45 Frederick St, Belfast BT1 2LWSunday 13th  December from 1.30 to 5.30 Frederick Street Quaker Meeting House 45 Frederick St, Belfast BT1 2LWSaturday 19th December.
