Vocal Playground Jam Lab: an invitation to come together and play, exploring the magic of collaborative music-making with voice and body!

What is this?

This is a space for you to…

✨ Explore your voice, express yourself, and co-create vocal magic
✨ Have a load of FUN making grooves, soundscapes, storysongs, and sweet sweet music!
✨ Come together with vocal improv lovers to sing, groove, and PLAY!

In the sessions we will…

🪁 Warm up together in a playful way, getting into our bodies and landing in ourselves and the space,
🪁 Be held in juicy circlesinging and Musica do Circulo inspired flow
🪁 Play with small group collaborative vocal improv forms in a supported and supportive environment

Who is it for?

✨ This is for folks with a bit of experience in collaborative vocal improvisation, as well as those willing to dive in and have a go
✨ This is for singers who are confident holding their own part, comfortable holding rhythm and harmony, and willing to be brave and be heard and seen in improvisational exploration. If you’re willing to be brave and want to grow, then this is for you!*
✨ This is a judgment-free zone where mistakes are welcomed and encouraged. No need for perfection here. Just a space to play.*

What if I’m a bit nervous?*

🌿 That is totally understandable. Singing in front of people can be really vulnerable, and this space honours where everyone is at. You’ll be encouraged to be brave and try new things, and you are also always encouraged to listen to your body and draw your own boundaries, and invited to pass or sit out and watch if a particular game or exercise isn’t for you. You never have to do anything you don’t want to do!*

Why this, and why now?

✨ After leading two 6-week introductory courses to collaborative vocal improvisation this year, I (Emma) am curious about what I’d like to offer going forward and have a few different ideas
✨ I’d like to create spaces for folks with some experience to come together and play with collaborative vocal improvisation games and forms in a supported and supportive environment, building confidence, creativity and community
✨ I’m also interested in hosting spaces for joyful and uplifting large group circlesinging and Musica do Circulo experiences, for both beginner and more experienced improvisers/singers to be held and guided through playful musical games which are connecting, inclusive and downright yummm
✨ This is a LAB to try both of these things. Come get curious and playful with me!
