Solstice Song | |
I am delighted to invite you to Solstice Song – a women’s singing circle on Saturday, 21st December, 18:00-20:00
An evening of seasonal songs to help us reset, restore, and with our voices create warmth and light in the darkness of the longest night.
THE EVENING
This two hour session gives us the opportunity to dive a little deeper into group singing. We will be singing beautiful, diverse, easy-to-learn songs for the season that you can take home and weave into your daily life. We’ll exercise our bodies and minds through the practice of oral-tradition group singing by learning beautiful songs that we will sing in harmony or in rounds. These songs will help you to nourish yourself, and fill up the reservoir that feeds you and to release the stress of your busy life and work week.
You are welcome to arrive a few minutes early to get comfortable in the space, make yourself a cup of tea, and be ready for a 18:00 start. You can expect a warm-up to enable us to access our voices safely and get the most out of the session. This will be followed by song learning and singing! There will be time at the end of our singing session for refreshments – hot drinks and festive treats will be provided – please let me know about any dietary requirements in advance. Bring a water bottle with you as singing can be thirsty work! You will be able to refill it as needed.
WHAT TO BRING
I suggest that you bring something you can write with and on. We don’t tend to write down the lyrics to songs but there may be a little bit of time for journaling or noting down anything that may come up for you.
The Quaker Meeting House should be warm, but please do bring warm layers, slippers, etc. if you’d like to. If you want to bring a blanket or cushion to make your seat more comfortable, feel free. We will be mostly standing or seated on chairs in a circle.
PARKING
There is some free parking on the nearby streets in the evenings. St Giles multistory carpark is very close by. The Forum carpark is also a short walk and has a £3.50 flat-rate evening parking rate from 17:30, there is also Pottergate Carpark – also just a short walk and open-air, so step-free.
