Songs of Joyful Resistance and Radical Rest | |

Come and enjoy an afternoon of singing with Edinburgh-based musician and activist Penny Stone. Penny’s songs often celebrate and uplift the voices of amazing people and movements for change from around the world, help to remind us that our voices have power, and sometimes remind us, as Audre Lorde so eloquently said, that “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
Penny is a Natural Voice teacher who believes that everyone can sing, so whether you’re a confident singer or an ‘I-can’t-sing’er you are equally welcome. Penny teaches mostly acappella harmony songs, some that she has written herself and others from around the world.

This workshop is charged on a pay-what-you-can scale, and if the lower end of this is still too much for you, please just drop me a line and I’ll put you aside a free ticket, no questions asked. If you are in a position to pay the standard or slightly higher ‘supporters’ rate, please do so to help me enable everyone who would like to access this workshop.
We will be singing in the Main Hall in the Pickle Factory, which is on the ground floor, is wheelchair accessible, and there is an accessible toilet on the same level.
Adults and kids are all welcome, but do be aware that the workshop is primarily aimed at adults. But if you know your youngster is comfortable in singing spaces, or you need to bring them so that you can participate, you’re all welcome and I’ll make the space as welcoming as I can for everyone.
