Collaborative Vocal Improvisation Retreat (non-residential)

WHO?

Calling out to singers who have experience in vocal improvisation and want to delve deeper into this rhythmic and harmonic universe, connect with other singers, and have opportunities to develop leadership skills.

WHAT?

A 4-day non-residential weekend retreat in Stroud from Friday 12th to Monday 15th July, exploring creativity and music-making using vocal improvisation and body music.

Over the weekend, we will:

• Play a variety of musical games with your voice and body
• Explore and expand your palette of possibility for improvisation with others
• Grow confidence in authentic self-expression and collective music-making
• Learn and develop your leadership skills
• Be seen and heard in the cabaret evening
• Share meals together and all the inbetween jams on toast
• Enjoy the surrounding beautiful nature of Stroud
• Connect with ourselves, meet great people, and have fun!

Rough Schedule:

Friday:
11-1 – Landing Session
1-2 – Lunch
2-4 – Nature Sing
4-6 – Nature swim in Woodchester Lake (optional)
6-8 – Dinner & sing together

Saturday:
8.30-9.30 – Dance or wild swim
10-11.30 – Session 1
12-1.30 – Session 2
1.30-3 – Lunch
3-4.30 – Session 3
5-6.30 – Session 4
7-9 – Pizza & Jam & Loop Party

Sunday:
8.30-9.30 – Dance or wild swim
10-11.30 – Big Sing (Invite friends and family to inclusive fun sing)
12-1.30 – Session 2
1.30-3 – Lunch
3-4.30 – Session 3
5-6 – Cabaret Prep
6-7.30 – Dinner – pot luck together
7.30 onwards – Playground Cabaret

Monday:
10-11.30 – Session 1
12-1.30 – Session 2
1.30-3 – Lunch
3-4.30 – Session 3
5-6 – Closing session

WHERE?

For the majority of the retreat we will be hosted at the beautiful Stroud Trinity Rooms Community Hub (GL5 2HZ).

For our Friday landing day, we will be just around the corner at St Albans Church, Wesley Rooms (GL5 1QH)

Accommodation is not provided, but recommendations will be shared, camping is possible, and there may be local hosts

The cost is £350 standard price and £320 low/no wage

FACILITATORS

We are Emma and Phoebe – singers, musicians, and friends, both super inspired and excited by collaborative music-making and all the delicious funtimes, nourishment, play, connection, and joy that this brings.

We’ve collaborated together now for a number of years, concocting workshops and musical funtimes! We’ve travelled to Brazil together and back, training as Música do Círculo facilitators, and we’ve been co-crafting the Vocal Playground weekly workshop series in Leeds and London.

We have studied with a variety of beautiful and different teachers from around the world, and we are excited to bring our experiences together in this unique long-weekend retreat. We look forward to meeting you!
