Hello singers!

You are invited to participate in the community chorus of Seeds of Hope: A Feminist Requiem which will be coming to Glasgow on Saturday October 3rd.

The requiem was written by Penny Stone in memory of her amazing feminist mum, Sue Stone, and brings together the words of women from all over the world, spanning from 575 CE until the present day. The requiem is sung in 18 languages (you won’t have to sing all of them!) and combines a variety of community choir, semi-chorus and soloist acapella singing with cello, violin, percussion and French horn. There are also some singing-together choruses for the audience to join in with that will be taught at the beginning of the concert. There is space in this piece for singing and listening, for sadness and joy, and for connection as well as time spent with our own individual feelings.

People of all genders are welcome to join the chorus, attend the workshop as a one off, and/or attend the concert. Tickets for concert only will be under a different booking link, and if you just want to come to the singing workshop on Sept 19th rather than singing in the full chorus for the performance weekend, this will be a separate booking link too. Both of these links are at the bottom of this page.

If you’d like to read more about this piece and what to expect, here are some FAQs: https://singlouderthanguns.com/seeds-of-hope-a-feminist-requiem/#FAQ

And you can hear a few wee snippets here: https://youtu.be/8EGTKjLgjbc?si=4iB2SIlwvABPuQ2u

Ticket prices for the community chorus are set at £50/£60/£70 as you can afford. This price covers the full day workshop on Sept 19th, rehearsals on Oct 2nd/3rd and the concert. If you would like to participate but the lower end of this is still too much, please do get in touch and I will absolutely arrange a lower fee for you, no questions asked.

Full workshop info:

For those living in or near Glasgow there will be a full day workshop on Saturday 19th September from 10am-4pm. We will have a shared lunch. You are invited, but not required, to bring food that reminds you of a wonderful (and/or difficult!) woman who is no longer with us.

For those living further away, and/or those who prefer more time with the songs before the weekend itself, there will be a Zoom session on Monday 14th September from 6.30-8.30pm. This will also be recorded.

There will then be a rehearsal in Glasgow on the evening of Friday 2nd October from 7-9, and a full day of rehearsing on Saturday 3rd October from 11am-5pm, finishing with the Concert itself from 7.30-9pm.

If you want to sing in the concert, it is strongly recommended that you attend all three workshops as there is quite a lot of music to sing, and the more we have all sung it together, the more enjoyable everyone will find the performance.

If you can’t attend all three, you must be able to either attend workshops on both  19th Sept  and 3rd October, or attend the Zoom session (which will be recorded) as well as October 2nd and 3rd.

There are limited places in the community chorus, due to the size of the performance space, and extra tickets will be available for just the singing workshop on Sept 19th. You can, of course, also come to the concert on the 3rd October and join in with the singing-audience elements.
