It’s a delight to welcome Brendan Taaffe & John Harrison back to East Anglia for a weekend of singing workshops in August 2026.

We’ll be singing in two fabulous chapel locations:

  • Octagon Chapel, Norwich: Saturday 15th August, 10am to 4:30pm (Colegate, Norwich NR3 1BN) – A beautiful Georgian chapel minutes from Norwich city centre. https://octagonunitarianchapel.uk/

Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Thhcf2vk4eskXjQKA?g_st=ipc

  • Walpole Old Chapel, Suffolk: Sunday 16th August, 10:30am to 5pm (Halesworth Road, Walpole, Suffolk IP19 9AZ) – A farmhouse in a lovely rural setting a few miles from Halesworth, converted into a non-conformist meeting house in the 17th century.     https://walpoleoldchapel.org/

Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QV2zMWKAA6XB5e4x5?g_st=ipc

Each of these events are bookable as a standalone 1-day workshop (cost: £45). Both days will feature Brendan and John, teaching different songs at each workshop. If you’d like to attend both days, please select the ‘weekend’ option below for the discounted price of £80. Ticket price includes booking fees + refreshments. Please bring your own lunch. See our FAQs for information on parking, accessibility of the workshop venues etc.

Brendan & John will be teaching their own compositions and arrangements in a variety of styles inspired by the ‘American Vernacular’ (gospel, bluegrass, Appalachian and shape note songs) and beyond, in glorious 3- and 4-part harmony. The songs will be accessible even to inexperienced singers, and everything will be taught by ear. Click ‘WATCH VIDEO’ to see Brendan & John singing one of Brendan’s compositions with the Bright Wings chorus. See Brendan’s and John’s YouTube channels for many more examples of their songs and arrangements.

PLEASE NOTE: The workshop locations are approximately 1 hour apart by car and unfortunately there are no public transport options for Walpole on Sundays. Please take this into account when booking. We will aim to provide a WhatsApp group or similar for attendees to arrange car-shares etc between themselves.

FAQ

The Octagon Chapel is a 15-20 minute walk from Norwich bus station (Surrey Street) and railway station (Thorpe Road). The nearest pay & display parking is a 2 minute walk away at Colegate car park, Golden Dog Lane, NR3 1HS (£10/day). PLEASE DO NOT PARK AT THE VENUE UNLESS YOU HAVE ACCESSIBILITY NEEDS as spaces are very limited.

Walpole Old Chapel is in a rural village location, not directly accessible by public transport on Sundays. Halesworth railway station is approximately 5 miles away; from there a taxi would be needed.

Parking is available opposite the chapel, across a (quiet) road. Please car share where possible as space is limited to 30-40 cars.

Directions if travelling by car from Halesworth: Follow the B1117 signs towards Stradbroke/Laxfield. As you enter Walpole you will see the chapel on the right-hand side, 20 yards after the red phone box.

a) If an event is cancelled by the organisers, refunds will be issued (minus non-refundable Snappy Tickets costs & payment processing fees);

b) Generally no refunds will be given prior to the event if tickets are still available for sale. In these circumstances, you are welcome to pass on unwanted ticket(s) to someone else to attend in your place. (It would be helpful if you could notify the organisers via sncommunitychoir@gmail.com so that our attendee list can be updated);

c) In the event that workshop(s) are sold out, a waiting list will operate. If it is possible to sell an equivalent ticket via the waiting list, a refund (minus costs & fees) will be considered. Please contact the organisers at sncommunitychoir@gmail.com to discuss.

The Chapel is accessed via 5 steps with handrails at the front entrance. There is a concrete ramp providing access via the rear of the building suitable for manual and powered wheelchairs and walking frames. Wheelchair users can be accommodated in the Chapel. Otherwise seating is on fixed wooden pews. If you have any questions about access, please contact the venue on 07598 675533 or via oucbookings@gmail.com.

There is ramped access to the chapel and an accessible toilet on site. Most of the available seating is in enclosed box pews, however chairs can be made available on request. Please be aware that the chapel is a historic building with many original features (gallery, uneven floors etc) that, while very beautiful, may be challenging if you have specific accessibility requirements. Please contact the workshop organisers and/or the venue directly (info@walpoleoldchapel.org, 01986 784348) to discuss any concerns prior to booking.
